My mothers touch

Carefully and patiently she helps me unpack

Tidily she arranges my clothes in my new cupboard

I used to ask why she bothered so much

Why she needed to make sure my clothes were in my drawers and my bed made with a cosy duvet on top

Before she left

But now I know she was leaving a little bit of herself here

Trying in her little way to make my world a little better

I used to want to rush her

So I could get back to my regular schedule

Of friends and plans for after she left

But now I let her take all the time and savour this moments together

Because they are so precious
